🔮 Five years ago, few people expected generative AI to become part of everyday work as quickly as it has.

Looking ahead, which emerging technology do you think is currently underestimated but has the potential to transform businesses, industries, or society in the coming decade?

It could be anything from clean technologies and advanced manufacturing to biotechnology, robotics, quantum computing, digital twins, or something else entirely.

Thank you, Shereen 👋 for this thought-provoking question. I believe digital twins are still underestimated despite their immense potential. By combining AI, IoT, and real-time data, digital twins can help organizations simulate scenarios, optimize operations, and make more informed decisions before implementing changes in the real world.

In the context of sustainable development, digital twins could support smarter urban planning, resource management, and ecosystem mapping, helping communities become more resilient and efficient. Much like generative AI today, I think this technology could become a standard tool across many sectors over the next decade.

Thank you for sharing this, Mohammad. Digital twins are a great example of an emerging technology that often flies under the radar despite their significant potential.

For those who may not be familiar with the concept, a digital twin is a virtual replica of a real-world object, system, or environment. It allows organizations to test scenarios, predict outcomes, and identify issues before making changes in the real world.

🌆 A well-known example is Singapore's Virtual Singapore initiative, a digital twin of the city used to support urban planning, transportation, and infrastructure development. By simulating different scenarios, planners can make more informed decisions before investing resources.
