Comoros is severely lagging behind in the development of telecommunications on a global scale. Comoros has about 14 web hosts, which is below the global average in terms of population. By the end of 2020, eight of them, or around 57%, were protected by SSL or a similar form of encryption. Merely around 8% of the residents had Internet connectivity as of 2020.

In recent years, more and more people have cell phones. While the percentage of those who own a cell phone was still below 20% in 2010, it is now around 90%. The rate of broadband users in the Comoros is 0.12%. By comparison, the rate in the United Arab Emirates is 32.81%.
