
Enhancing Food Systems and Resilience Capabilities within the Arid and Semi-Arid regions in Kenya
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry assented and entered into a partnership to support the enhancement of food systems in the Arid and Semi-Arid Regions in Kenya in a partnership with the World Food Programme.
The Initiatives the partnership will immediately focus on:
Ø County Innovation Centers – leverage the partnership to support local innovations, startups, and entrepreneurs to access larger and organized markets for their goods, specifically targeting to empower communities at the deep field level in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).
Ø Climate-smart agriculture – testing, piloting, and scaling technologies to support agricultural resilience to enhance productivity and improve livelihoods for smallholder farmers.
Ø Farm to Market Alliance – leverage the partnership to provide enhanced market linkages for smallholder farmers through WFP’s Farmer Service Centres and the Chambers network of private sector partners, both locally and globally.
Ø Centre of Entrepreneurship (ICC & UNECA) – target to support the digitalization of SMEs, innovation, scale-up of startups, and linkages for entrepreneurs across the region.
The partnership and collaboration was formalized through an MOU joint signing ceremony between the Chamber President, Dr. Erick Rutto and the Representative and Country Director, WFP Kenya Office, Lauren Landis.
