For many years, French and Japanese companies have partnered in the fields of energy transition and sustainable cities in many regions of the world, among them various countries in the Middle East. Renewable energies (solar, wind, geothermal) and natural gas, railway and public transit, water and sewerage, and waste treatment are among the projects developed.
Of the projects implemented in 2020 under this cooperation, 13% were implemented in the MENA region. One focus of the project work of both countries in the MENA region is on the water and sewerage sector. The number of joint projects is increasing constantly.
The Franco-Japanese plan for sustainable development, health, and security in Africa, which was signed by the Prime Ministers of France and Japan, aims to contribute to the realization of sustainable development on a continental scale while also encouraging commercial partnerships and investments between French and Japanese companies.
