Renewable Energies in Italy

Access permissions

Italy is one of the countries that has led the way in renewable energy deployment. It is also one of the eight EU members who have committed in their National Energy and Climate Plans to phase out coal (2021-2030).

As of 2021, 40.91% of the country's electricity comes from renewables, compared to 27.68% in 2011.

Italy has made rapid progress in the renewable energy industry over the last decade.

The main energy sources in question are water, the sun, wind, and heat from the earth. Other sources, such as wave and tidal power, as well as various biofuels, exist alongside these strategic resources, albeit to a much lesser extent.
