Registration Open: Intellectual Property Training Program with WIPO

📢 Announcing the Intellectual Property (IP) Training Program 

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Intellectual Property (IP) training program in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), commencing in September 2024.

What’s Included?

• Two virtual training sessions (each 1 hour long)
• Focus: Fundamentals of intellectual property and the use of WIPO's diagnostic tool
• Target Audience: E-commerce businesses

Opportunity to Join the IP Management Clinic Program (IPMC)

30 selected businesses who complete the training sessions and receive their IP diagnostic reports will be eligible to join WIPO's IP Management Clinic Program (IPMC). The 30 selected businesses joining this program will receive an exclusive invitation to the Arab SMEs Summit 2024 in Qatar, an onsite engagement that will serve as the program's launch, followed by a comprehensive, remote continuation for the same businesses starting in January 2025.

The IPMC is a four-month program that aims to help companies better utilize IP as part of their business strategies. The anticipated time dedication for participants during this period is estimated at between 10 to 15 hours each.  (Note: Enrollment in the virtual training sessions is required to be eligible for the IPMC program.)

Why Join the IP Management Clinic Program?

Companies selected to participate in the IP Management Clinic will benefit from a free program of activities spread over 4 months, specifically designed to address their IP management needs, as determined in the application process. They will receive advice on IP management strategies and guidance on how the IP system can make their products or services more competitive in today’s market, benefiting from IP protection and its competitive advantage.

Participants will have a clear understanding of the importance of protecting their IP assets and will be guided on managing and leveraging these IP rights in the different phases of their business journey.

Program Schedule

• Nov 2024: Exclusive invitation to the Arab SMEs Summit 2024 in Qatar
• Jan – Apr 2025: Three personalised, one-on-one mentoring sessions with renowned IP and business experts;
• Jan – Apr 2025: Three online workshops covering a range of business- and IP-related topics designed to correspond to the specific needs of participating companies, including:
  • IP intelligence and audit;
  • branding and marketing;
  • IP strategy and IP portfolio management;
  • IP ownership and collaboration;
  • advice on how to identify opportunities to use their IP to generate income and value;
  • IP implications for online environments, IP & e-commerce strategies
  • advice on IP issues in overseas markets;
  • IP valuation and financing;
  • IP risk mitigation and enforcement;
• Peer-to-peer networking opportunities among participating companies in the clinic.

Who can apply?

To participate, companies must meet the following criteria:

• be a Startup or an SME (less than 50 million turnover and 250 employees);
• be based in an Arab country
• own a product or service that is already commercialized in the market and be potentially or already protected by IP rights;
• operating within digital marketplaces
• have an entrepreneurial team (of at least two people);
• the entrepreneurial team must have a good command of English.

Deadline and Schedule

To participate, applicants must complete this questionnaire by September 22, 2024. WIPO and ESCWA will assess applications and select 30 companies. The selection announcement will take place in early October.

To ensure a successful IP Management Clinic, the selected companies will be expected to actively participate in the program (join online workshops, join Arab SMEs Summit, provide non-confidential information on their product or technology and IP, provide feedback after the clinic with a time dedication estimated at between 10 and 15 hours).
