WASH in the Arab Region

Access permissions

The Middle East and North Africa as a whole suffer from water scarcity like no other region in the world. The greatest concern centers on particularly vulnerable populations in unsanitary refugee camps, where large numbers of people live together in confined spaces and often share inadequate sanitation facilities.

Disparities in WASH infrastructure are wide across Arab countries and are further exacerbated by recent conflicts and migration flows. While the WASH infrastructure in the Gulf countries is well developed and improving every year, in countries such as Yemen, health, water and sanitation services are virtually inaccessible to many people due to ongoing conflict.
