France is strongly committed to ensuring that all women and girls, everywhere in the world, can go to school without hindrance, have access to employment, start their own businesses and lead independent lives. To ensure that adequate resources are available, France has increased the share of official development assistance earmarked for gender equality. For example, 50% of the funds allocated by the French development service Agence Française de Développement (AFD) go to projects that reduce gender inequalities. The self-imposed target is that 75% of projects funded by France's official development assistance contribute to greater gender equality by 2025.
