Since the 1990s, renewables have contributed to the UK's energy mix. Renewable sources now account for more than 40% of the UK's energy production, and the trend is still upward. Renewable energies play a key role in the national strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced his intention to achieve 100% coverage of energy demand from renewable sources by 2035. However, the national goal is not only the expansion of renewable energy sources, but also a medium-term reduction of the general energy demand through more energy-saving technological alternatives.
