Renewable Energy in Germany

Renewable energies are one of Germany's most important sources of electricity. Their continued growth is a critical component of the German energy transition. The goal is to make Germany's energy supply more environmentally friendly and less reliant on fossil fuels, electricity, and heating imports. In 2020, the share of renewable energies in Germany was 46%, and the trend is still rising.

The German renewable energy supply is mainly based on wind and solar energy, but biomass and hydropower also contribute.
