Renewable Energy in the Czech Republic
Fossil fuels, above all coal, continue to dominate the Czech Republic's energy and power generation mix. However, EU climate targets are making coal increasingly unattractive as an energy supplier. Phasing out power generation from coal and switching to sustainable, renewable energy sources are the main challenges facing the Czech energy sector. Although the share of renewables in the Czech energy mix has increased significantly in recent years, they still play a minor role. In 2019, just 16% of the country's total final energy consumption came from renewable energy sources, mainly bioenergy.

Czech Approach to Impact Assessment of Renewable Energy Sources
Ongoing decarbonization and the increasing share of renewable energy sources (RES) results in the development, expansion, and construction of new RES, which is driven not just by European Union targets. Czech municipalities must thus decide whether to support or to refuse RES projects. Energy managers are an integral part of municipal management in almost all larger cities but mayors of smaller towns must make this decision on their own.

Is solar energy about to take off in the Czech Republic after years of stagnation?
