The MENA countries produce the most waste per capita in the world. Yet less than 20% of solid waste is effectively processed and not even 5% of it is recycled. The most common type of waste in the region is construction waste. Gulf countries produce significantly more solid waste than other countries in the MENA region, but at the same time promote the most advanced waste management programs. These include, for example, the construction of recycling plants and waste incinerators.
